TWH Ultimate Guide to Boots

I think it would be safe to say that most people have at least one pair of boots in their wardrobe. The ultimate choice to complete a Fall or Winter outfit, boots these days offer multiple style options to suit a variety of footwear needs. It’s probably a stretch to say we need these 2018 Saint Laurent tassel boots, but they are definitely up there on the highly-desired shoes of the year list! Did you know the history behind the boot though? It’s an interesting read for shoe lovers…

The earliest origin of the boot goes back as far as 1000 BC where they were worn by the nomads of Eastern Asia. The oxhide boots pictured above were worn by the people of Loulan, China around 220 BC. Mongol invaders travelled through China, India and Russia between 1200-1500 AD also wearing a soft ankle boot much like the boots pictured above, and the early Inuit and Aleut natives of Alaska were known to wear boots made of seal or caribou skin.

It was apparently the Dutch Masters who first officially defined the boot in European history, however the first codified definition of the boot was entered into law by Royal decree during The Hundred Years War. Throughout history soldiers have worn boots for protection and the iconic military style boot is still in use today, not only military purposes but for high fashion effect.

So as you can see the boot has been around forever as the original form of protection for feet from the weather and during battle. These days, of course, there are a plethora of styles of both fashionable and functional boots. Let’s take a look at a few of our favourites. You may even find your favourite pair on sale at the moment on The Shoe Equation –

  1.  The equestrian style boot. Who doesn’t love these? Perfect for not only riding horses but even better with a tailored jacket and tights, like these riding jodhpurs. Like all boots, make sure you get the right size and use leather conditioning cream if they need a little softening.

2.   Ankle boots are really popular due to their ease of matching with multiple outfit choices. And, they are a really stable option if you think you may be standing or walking for any length of time.  Wearing a heel around the 5cm point (or less) will ensure a comfortable ball of foot. A silicon forefoot cushion pad will aid in overall comfort if the sole of the shoe is leather.

  1. The sock bootie.  This look has been around for a couple of years now and was made popular by Balenciaga. These Casadei boots 2019 are pretty spectacular aren’t they! We are big fans of the sock bootie as they tend to be a little more forgiving in the upper for those with minor toe deformities, due to their flexible material. This shoe has a really high heel and probably isn’t a great choice for long periods of standing or walking but if you plan to sit, go for it!

We have some fantastic boot options on The Shoe Equation that will suit every foot type and every occasion. Why not jump on and take a look while there is still a little bit of Winter around? There are a lot of end of season sales on so you are sure to grab a bargain!

Happy shoe shopping!

Until next time,
