Fine Fare and Exotic Martinis (RECIPE): TWH On The Weekend

What did you all get up to this weekend? We’ve both gotten into the spirit of silly season and have filled our time by trying new cocktails, eating at our favourite restaurants and visiting the theatre! Tonight we thought we’d share with you a recap of Elouise’s recent kid-free weekend in Melbourne, including a exquisite new martini recipe she discovered. We hope you enjoy and don’t forget to share what you did in the comments, we’d love to hear.

Elouise –

Antoine and I recently spent the weekend in Melbourne trying all the hottest drinking holes and restaurants that Australia’s most liveable city has to offer. I ticked off two destinations that have been on my ‘want to try’ list for a quite a while! Those being the iconic Flower Drum restaurant and Shane Delia’s Maha. Here is a super quick synopsis of our weekend, including the recipe of a fabulous martini that I had at Shane’s restaurant. Cheers!

First up we have the dish of the night at Flower Drum. Stir fried barramundi noodles! I had to quiz the waiter on how they were made and he informed me that the noodle is made of barramundi and spices only. So delicious that I think I’ll have to attempt a recreation…

Next up, more chinese fare at a random spot in Chinatown. Don’t ask me the name as we picked the one that had the biggest line! An absolutely satisfying MaPo Beancurd experience. Will definitely go back next time in Melbourne. Although disappointingly, the heels of my Louboutin’s were damaged on route to this restaurant (nooo!).  (Stay tuned for our YouTube interview with master shoe repairer Troy Beard from ‘Hallelujah Shoe Works’, as he fixes them!)

And next up here I am at Maha picking…

Oysters! Note the star anise, cinnamon and cardamon pods on the plate. The dipping sauce was also a middle eastern experience which was something I hadn’t tried before.

This was the 2nd course of 4.  The smoked eel with with green harissa was amazing!

Anyway enough of our food odyssey. What of the drink?  Well I have to say that the above mentioned Turkish Delight Martini complemented our heady experience at Maha and was my favourite drink of the trip. I would absolutely recommend trying it and maybe serve with hummus or babaganoush with flatbread on your next afternoon drinks?
