We all saw Melania Trump get roasted last week for her poor choice of footwear en route to visit the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. While this is definitely NOT the most important focus of a natural disaster, the media latched onto it with fury. Despite feeling that perhaps the US media’s priorities were a little off that week, we’ve decided to help the FLOTUS out with a few tips for suitable yet chic wet weather footwear.
On one hand, Melania was applauded for her ongoing dedication to looking great in front of the camera. On the other, it was noted that perhaps her gorgeous snakeskin high heels were not fitting for a First Lady visiting a city that has been devastated by a natural disaster.
This brings us to point number 1 – Manolos are not really a great choice for wet weather. Firstly, you’ll ruin them. Secondly, you’ll trip. Thirdly, and as many have argued, it kind of oozes insensitive. Regardless of that, after a footwear change on board Air Force One, Melania emerged from the chopper in a pristine white pair of sneakers. Again, very on trend but perhaps not fitting for a trip to muddy devastated Texas. I think that it was highly unlikely that she was going to get down and dirty with the locals, but at least look the part?
Melania, you may want to approach your next wet weather engagement a little bit like you do…. (I actually can’t think of a situation in which Melania will get her feet dirty)… walking through Venice during Acqua Alta. You need a waterproof shoe to avoid a fungal infection, a nasty fall, and looking like you’ve never picked up a shovel in your life. Preferably not so white they’re blinding. Our previous post should give you some ideas.
Better luck next time,
E&E.
