D’Orsay flat I hear you say? Is that something best served on soy with caramel syrup on top? Not quite. Introducing our new segment for The Well-Heeled where we explore different shoe styles and iconic shoes throughout the ages. And while our first up does sound like a chic new coffee that a few blokes with perfectly manicured beards have developed, it’s actually a shoe style! And a highly popular one at that. Introducing the D’Orsay flat.
This iconic shoe style keeps resurfacing for it’s simplistic design and ability to be varied in many ways. It is characterised by a pointed toe box, closed in heel counter and is open throughout the midfoot. It is always a flat shoe – there is no such thing as a D’Orsay Flat errrm Heel?
Variations include a strap or lacing around the ankle or a t-strap running up the foot, and the sky’s the limit with leather or fabric variations. These shoes look great with a dress, skirt, jeans or pretty much anything. However, the flatness of the shoe can be an issue for those with tight calf muscles and for anyone doing long periods of walking. Believe us, you won’t be able to get far without a cramp in your arches or legs! Also the pointed toe area is unsuitable for those with a wide foot, bunions or toe deformities. We recommend you do pair your D’Orsay Flat with your coffee and rock them while you’re mostly sitting down! Here are a few that we love.
This variation of the D’Orsay has a deeper heel counter which is fantastic for stability and a strap around the ankle. Available from Goodnight Macaroon.
Love, love, love these pretties from Tory Burch! The decorative strap wouldn’t really do anything for stability but it does look nice!
Who doesn’t love a bit of leopard in their shoes? These are gorgeous! Jenni Kayne seems to love the D’Orsay and you can get a multitude of colour options here.
So maybe trial the D’Orsay on your next shop for casual flats? Let us know what you think!
Until next time,
