It seems that sock fashion is the new must have accessory for your heels… Whether you go for the heavily embellished look of the latest Dolce and Gabbana or the classic fishnet anklet, the sock can take your favourite pumps to a whole new level. But did you know that they could serve an even better purpose?
At The Well-Heeled we’re always on the lookout for new season trends that not only look great but improve your high heel experience. Socks can serve as an effective means of protection to both your toes and feet in general. A sheer sock or stocking aids in reducing friction over your toes and any other prominent areas in the foot that potentially may develop corns or calluses. These areas of hard, dense skin may become very painful over time, and ultimately limit your ability to wear certain shoes unless you seek care from a podiatrist. We recommend that you pay attention to any seams or stitching in your hosiery that may cause irritation. Perhaps pull this area further forward to reduce pressure which will improve your overall comfort.
Another benefit of the sock is the ability to take your Summer pumps to a Winter classic. Socks are extremely effective in keeping your feet warm, which is what we all want on a cold Winter’s night when out at your favourite bistro that perhaps has the brazier placed just a little too far away! Trust us – you don’t want Chillblains!
The humble sock is also highly recommended when dealing with odour (bromhidrosis). The latest trend of fluff embellished slides and loafers mentioned in our recent post don’t help with this situation. A moisture wicking sock such as bamboo is effective in keeping moisture away from the foot, thus reducing the risk of smelly shoes.
Or didn’t get a chance for a pedicure? Apparently it isn’t a fashion faux pas anymore to wear open toed shoes with socks or embellished stockings. Just hide your sins under your favourite foot warmers! You could also take a look on The Shoe Equation for this season’s top picks. All of these can be teamed with a sock for a contemporary look bringing you up with today’s sock fashion trend.
Until next time….
