TWH Top 5 Shoes for Spring

Carolina Herrera S/S 19 Resort Collection

The weather is definitely turning here in Aus, and it seems that it’s time to start packing away the jackets and scarves in preparation for another Summer. We love Winter at TWH but there is something exciting about a change of season and all that it brings… So what are the next must haves for your shoe collection? We’ve gone through a bunch of new runway items and style trends (thanks NYFW!) to bring you the low down.

  1. PVC Sandals

Whether you love them or hate them it seems PVC shoes are going to be around for another season and in quite a big way! This trend spans across most shoe styles and heel heights, including these epic Christian Louboutins spike heels pictured second (definitely better for a sitting event!). Chanel is doing boots and many other mainstream brands have casual sandals with wide PVC straps and block heels. Did you know, the Manolo Blahnik slides pictured first are a personal favourite of Anna Wintour’s? A play on the times when we dressed up as children in princess shoes, the PVC shoe does add a touch of glamour into footwear. Although in Summer I wouldn’t recommend a boot – the foot obviously can’t breath if it is entirely enclosed in plastic. Make sure you wipe out your PVC shoes with alcohol wipes after use to avoid any nasty bacterial parties growing in your shoes or feet!

  1. A Pop of Colour

This year expect to see lots of colour in sandals, mules, kitten heels and even boots! Orange, red, pink and yellow will all be hot favourites like these Victoria Beckham kitten heels pictured third. We’ve added some great colour pop options to The Shoe Equation and grouped them according to which feet they suit best!

  1. Kitten Heels

We love kitten heels at TWH. You get all the elegance of a heel without the side effects! A kitten heel is a perfect choice for those days when you think you are going to be standing or walking for some time. Take a look at these Bottega Venetta sandals pictured second. We loved them so much that we have featured these on The Shoe Equation. The low heel, closed in heel counter and strap across the top of the foot all aid in stability and that often means comfort! The only downside with this shoe is there is quite a bit of stitching which can mean irritation. The use of silicon offloading spots or strips is the answer here.

  1. Toe ring sandals

And it seems the gladiator style toe ring sandals are here again. Ancient Greek Sandals will be a favourite or take a look at these Isabel Marant’s .We wouldn’t recommend that walk in these for too long believe it or not… The pitch of the heel is completely flat which may cause just as many problems as a sky-high heel! We do like the placement of the straps as it does give some arch support, although the type of leather used in these sandals is often stiff and can cause irritation. The use of a leather nourishing cream will soften and protect the leather for a more comfortable wear.

  1. The Dad sneaker

We are still getting our heads around this fashion statement. The podiatrist inside us says yes but the fashion side of our brains still has a question mark. These Balenciaga’s certainly are a comfortable option for days with lots of walking. It seems you can team these sneakers with just about anything! Definitely a great option for the day after a night out in heels. We have a selection of these on The Shoe Equation!

Well, shoe lovers go forth and start shopping for your Spring/Summer essentials. A bit of colour, a kitten heel, a chunky soled jogger and a glamorous sandal should cover all your footwear needs for the upcoming season!

Until next time,
