Do you love racing season but not the sore feet after a full day of heels? Let’s be honest, it can by far be the most annoying part of an otherwise glam event. At TWH we not only have you covered with 2019’s top shoe trends for the racing season, but also what’s going to look good and be comfortable on the day. Here are our top 5 tips for owning it at the races, and most importantly avoiding the unsightly ‘heels in hands’ look at the end of the day.
- Beware of the barely there sandal!
Strappy sandals are everywhere at the moment, but wear them with caution! Thin straps often cause friction which means blisters and ultimately pain. If your outfit demands a fine sandal make sure the straps don’t sit over areas of the foot that flex. That means the big and little toe joints and over the toes themselves. Also check that there are no rough seams or stitching that could potentially cause skin irritation. Since writing last years racing season tips TWH has actually launched their first product range. We have the perfect solution for problem straps. Our A4-Shoe Relief strips will get you through the day pain free and looking great!
2. Get comfortable with a block or statement heel
The statement or sculptural heel is still very much on trend and is the perfect choice for track side comfort. Try choosing a heel around 5cm and a wider base for better stability. Heels that sit directly under the heel rather than the back of the heel will also be more comfortable. The sculptural heel on this Neous shoe ticks all the boxes for a great day at the track. No chance of shoes in hand with this one! For a more ultimate shoe experience try putting TWH’s A1-High Heel Corrector in place. It will give the ball of foot the cushioning it needs for all day standing and stop any sliding in the shoe.
3. The mule is still a great choice!
The mule is still a popular choice in the footwear stakes and is perfect for a day at the track. Let’s face it after standing for hours there is often some swelling that occurs in the foot and ankle. A mule is more forgiving than a completely closed in shoe and if the upper is reasonable wide it can be very stable. This Gucci slide is gorgeous in yellow but it is quite high. We would recommend our A1-High Heel Corrector for ultimate comfort.
4. Take a break as often as you can!
This one can be a little hard to maneuver at the races, but if you really want to be comfortable and stay in those shoes all day a little time out is usually necessary. Why not plan ahead and take a picnic blanket or make your way to the bar area which usually has chairs or stools. Another tip is to do some heel lifts (transfer weight up onto the toes and then relax down onto the foot) and some foot rotations to encourage better circulation in the legs and feet. Depending on how high the heel on the shoe is, it may also pay off to do some calf stretches when you duck to the ladies to release any calf contraction/shortening. The balls of your feet will thank you for it!
5. Be prepared!
At TWH we are all about solving footwear issues so that you can wear the shoes you love without the pain! It should be common sense but many people put their brand new shoes on for the first time on the day of the event. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Try wearing new shoes around the house with a thick sock to stretch any areas of stiff leather. This way you will be alerted to any potential areas of irritation that may cause a blister or skin irritation. We also recommend that you take regular breaks and have an emergency kit in your handbag to deal with any shoe problems. A silicone spot, strip or heel grip is priceless when you have painful feet. With these 3 items and a ball of foot cushion you can usually deal with any shoe emergency and avoid using ugly bandaids. Our A5-Ultimate High Heel Corrector Kit is the must have item for race day. There is literally a solution for every footwear problem in this kit, and you get an emergency dust bag to carry items in your handbag in case you come unstuck.
So have fun racing ladies and remember to follow these simple steps to avoid shoe disasters and painful feet on your day out!
Until next time,
